“Novo Uno” Website’s Usability Test

The Project: “Novo Uno” Website’s Usability Test

Client: Fiat

The Fiat Uno was resurrected for Project Type 327, the Brazilian-built “New One”. The new Uno is engineered at Brazil and co-designed with Turin’s Fiat Stile Center, and is basically a more urban interpretation of the Fiat Panda style on a Fiat Palio. It is larger and roomier than the first, but smaller and cheaper than the second platform. The car has two options of engines: the 1.0 Fire Evo (74 hp) and the 1.4 Fire Evo (87 hp), both able to use ethanol, gasoline or a mix of both fuels.

It is being sold in several South American countries as well as Brazil, but it has yet to be confirmed whether this One will be sold in Europe.

The Usability study objectives:

The usability study intends to test the “New Uno” website of FIAT Automóveis based on the tool ‘Monte seu Carro’.
The research project aimed to investigate users’ perceptions regarding ease of use, speed of access to content and efficiency of how to set up a car. All participants performed pre-established tasks and behaviours, criticisms and suggestions were raised in relation to each of the tasks studied.

General objective:

Understand if the experience of the “Mount Your Car” of the New Uno was satisfactory for users of the Fiat website, as well as quantitative results of the tool.

Specific objectives:

  • Verify if the user can easily interact with the tool:
  • Whether it is able to recognize navigation options and features.
  • The user can find the information they need.
  • If they easily remember how to operate the website’s tool.
  • If the interface is not subject to errors.
  • If they like to interact with it and consider the experience as a pleasant and relevant.

The following research methodologies were used in this study:

  • In-depth interview
  • Observation of participants
  • Verbal Protocol ‘Think aloud’ (participants are invited to verbalize their thoughts while interacting with the tools)
  • Tasks performed during the study
  • Reporting of interviews with participants
  • Completion of questionnaires (expressions of preference)
  • Participants were invited to complete the tasks and then evaluate the interfaces of the sites based on their experiences during the tests.
